Dear Slugs
JDS Junior Tournament Friday Oct 4th
Marcus is running a Junior Development Series Tournament on Friday October 4th during school holidays. There are events for age groups from under 9s to under 15s. These events are the smallest of the tournaments that are run, and are run in a much more relaxed environment to give kids their first taste of tournament tennis. They are all done in a day and would be a great lead in to the season for all junior players. I encourage all juniors intending to play this summer to enter. Please email Marcus at peakperformanceSA , or ring him on 0407 833 850 for more details or to enter.
Some Juniors already have a MyTennis ID which you will need to enter the tournament. I have attached a list of Juniors and your MyTennis IDs if applicable. If you don’t have a MyTennis ID please ring 1800 752983 (1800 My Tennis) and Tennis Australia will be able to hook you up.
Congratulations Winter Premiers!
I have been sent a couple more premiership photos, so here they are. Congratulations again to the all-conquering Div 1 Men’s Doubles, Friday Night Premier Boys, Div 1 WDTA Boys, and Hotshots Boys.
*** I still don’t have a copy of the Hotshots Boys team, so if Trevor or Louise or anyone else can send me one it would be greatly appreciated.
Div 1 Boys: Winton, Toby, Peter & Lachlan
Premier Div Boys: Ben, Ryan, Alex, Pierce, Seth
Summer Season starts October 22nd for Juniors, Oct 15th for Seniors
Apologies. In the last newsletter I wrote that tennis starts Oct 15th. Actually only Seniors start Oct 15th, Juniors start the following week on October 22nd. So there is no need to cut your holiday to Noosa short.
The Quiz
Congratulations to the winners of last week’s Quiz: Matt Rymill, Dave Rule, Ben Wellington and Nectar Koutsouliotis, who correctly named Harry Hopman as the pictured tennis hero. Harry was a 3-time Australian Open finalist and a 7 time grand slam doubles and mixed doubles champion, but he is best known for captain-coaching Australia to an incredible 16 Davis Cups over a 22 year span. He is the father of modern Australian tennis and the architect of our dominance of the sport in the 50’s and 60’s. Hats off to Harry.
This week’s question is a bit tougher: Name South Australia’s No. 1 ranked tennis player immediately before John Fitzgerald.
Hint: This is not a him.
Email me back with the answer, a correct answer will be chosen at random for a special prize. J
Cheers
Pete
