PGRTC Christmas Party – Covid edition

Hello Senior Players.

As you may know we are still under Covid-19 restrictions and therefore are unable to have a large Christmas party this year.
We have decided that the easiest way around this is to have two separate parties, one on Friday night and one on Saturday night.
Senior players are invited to come to the club this Saturday night, 12th December, at 6 pm for a free sausage sizzle. Or come earlier if you would like to watch some great tennis.
We understand that some players are playing at other venues on the day but we would love to see them after their matches for a quick bite.

Cheers and see you on Saturday night.

Newsletter June 2020. Return to play, new club coach, AGM date, Open Day date

Dear Club members

Hope you are all keeping well in these abnormal times.

Given the restrictions are easing and under the Government’s Covid Safeplan, community sports are beginning to return with both Junior and Senior winter tennis having been given approval for their seasons to commence.

Start dates are the 12th and 13th of June respectively. There are some print-outs detailing activity

restrictions and

guidelines available for people to read in the club rooms so please take the time to have a quick look at what is expected of us all with the resumption of competition.

More details are available at https://www.tennis.com.au/sa/

We’d also like to announce a few changes that are happening around the club in the coming weeks.

The first being that we are unfortunately saying farewell to Marcus and Peak Performance tennis in its current capacity, Marcus has elected not to renew his contract with the Club as Club Head coach and Junior Coordinator. He has elected to pursue a fresh start, so we wish him all the best for his future endeavors and thank him for his past services for the Club.

Secondly with that being said and after an extensive interview process, we’d like to announce the appointment of Ben Milner and Li Tu from M2 Tennis as the new Head Coaches of the Club from July 1st. We’re excited with this announcement, and the future opportunities and growth it will bring to our club.

Please feel free to contact them on 0411 812 181 or ben to arrange coaching after this date. We will organise a time for parents and players to come and meet the guys sometime in the near future so stay tuned…

The club has also decided to form a Junior Coordination Committee headed by myself, with the inclusion of Trevor Frangs and Cassandra Ackerie. We feel that Marcus has done a fantastic job over the journey and they will certainly be tough shoes to fill. Please also feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions.

For those that are interested in attending our Annual General Meeting it has been slated for Sunday 26th July starting with a BBQ lunch around 12 noon. More details to follow soon.

If you’re wondering where your trophy is from last summer season or the 2020 club tournament – don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten you. If you can hold out until our next Open Day on Sunday 30th August we will be making presentations of all outstanding awards. More info on the open day also to come at a later date.

Lastly, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind people of the wonderful support we have received from our sponsors over the last financial year and urge you to take your business their way whenever possible.
Thank you Oakford Homes, WBH Legal, A.H. Trophies, John Cullen from Raine & Horne, Arthur Knight, Villi’s, Totally WorkWear, Lynair Logistics, Michell Wool.

Winter season tennis is on!

Good morning all.

For those that have not already heard on the grapevine – Winter Season 2020 is happening.
We have only got two weeks to lodge our teams so please contact Matt Rymill on 0411 868 686, or mrymill00 for seniors comp – or reply to me for juniors.
Winter Pennant seniors is planned to commence on Saturday 6 June, with an 11 week home and away season plus two weeks of finals.
GDTA juniors Saturday comp and WDTA Friday night Premier league comp will decide on their start dates in the next few days.
So if you haven’t already done so please register your interest to play ASAP.
More info about how the Covid situation affects the season will also be sent out in the coming days but it will more than likely mean the canteen can’t be open and spectators are encouraged to stay in their cars and watch. And no kissing your opponent after your match!

Stay tuned…

PGRTC Club temporary closure

Good evening all.

The club has recently received notification from the West Torrens City Council stating that we have been forced to close due to COVID-19.

Unfortunately this means we are unable to run the canteen, gather at the clubhouse or even play social tennis on the premises until further notice.

If you need access to the club rooms to retrieve any property or just have any questions in regards to this order please feel free to contact me.

Once again, this is an order from the council – not a decision made by the club.

Please see below :

IMPORTANT NOTICE RE: COVID-19 PANDEMIC

As you would be aware, the COVID-19 pandemic is a global health and societal emergency that requires effective and immediate action by governments, individuals and businesses. As custodians of our community, the City of West Torrens is obligated to ensure that we do the best to ensure the safety of our residents, ratepayers and our staff by following the directions given by the relevant authorities.

Last night, the Prime Minister announced sweeping new closures for council, business and community facilities across Australia designed to slow the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

Critically for local government, the Prime Minister’s announcement, which will be given the force of law by way of direction of the Commissioner of Police under the Emergency Management Act 2004 in South Australia, requires the closure of all non-essential local government services by midnight tonight, Wednesday 25 March 2020.

Among the local government facilities specifically singled out for closure are:

  • Libraries and community centres, youth centres and community halls;
  • Galleries, museums and historic sites;
  • Recreation centres and swimming pools;
  • Social sporting activities;
  • Health clubs, fitness centres, saunas and wellness centres; and
  • Indoor and outdoor play centres.

Consequently, your licence/lease with the City of West Torrens is now suspended and the premises must remain closed until notified otherwise.

Council will be considering a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the financial impact on affected organisations and more information will be provided as it become available.

This challenge is one that we have never experienced before and we ask for your ongoing cooperation in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our community.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your members the very best in these trying times.

Yes – trying times indeed…

Presentation night postponed

Good evening all.

I guess it will come as no surprise to most that the committee has decided to postpone this season’s presentation night until further notice.
This is

obviously due to the

risk of COVID-19 infection associated with large gatherings and the fact that we don’t have enough room inside to feed everyone at the same time under the new federal guidelines of 1 person per four square metres .
Please stay tuned for updates – and be nice to your local supermarket employees!

Tennis Australia Coronavirus update

Morning all. Please find attached a pdf sent out by Tennis Australia regarding the current Coronavirus situation.
The pdf mainly talks about washing hands and avoiding unnecessary contact but they have also issued a separate statement stating that Metro and State league comp has been cancelled until further notice.
Your GDTA/WDTA matches at this stage are going ahead today (Saturday March 14) and you may have already received a text message about not shaking hands after your match if you don’t want to.
So… seeing as we are not shaking hands today you might as well come down to the club after your match and put a hot sausage in one hand and a cold drink in the other. 6pm start.

Cheers

Peake Gardens Newsletter Jan. 2020

Good evening all.Hope you have all had a good holiday season and are not spending too much time watching the tennis on TV.
A few things to note as we head into 2020:

Matches Resume This Week
Saturday matches for juniors and seniors resume this weekend with Friday night Premier league and Junior State League kicking off this Friday January 31st. If you are aware of any days you are unavailable to play please tell your team captains or contact Matt Rymill to let him know (or Marcus for juniors).
In fact we would love to see all and sundry this Friday night for the JSL Central Round at 6:30pm. Come, have a bevvy/snag and support our State League boys as their season resumes. We’re expecting some VIP guests and would love to show them what a great community venue we are.

New Look Website
Check out the updated website at pgrtc.net.au . The pixies have been working hard to get it finished (mostly) and it is now good to go. Many thanks to Pete McMahon for his years of service maintaining the older site but the need for mobile friendly access along with flashy graphics that unnecessarily chew up your download limit has reared it’s insta-friendly head.

Club Online Survey
The new site includes an online questionnaire at pgrtcsecretary.

Jump online and let us know what you’re thinking.

Club Tournament and GDTA Junior Tournament
Don’t forget the PGRTC and Glenelg Districts Tennis Association Junior tournaments will be hosted over the next few months so watch this space for details…

Cheers and we’ll see you all around the club soon.
